Hello, welcome to my blog! My name is Kirby Shanklin, I'm a young girl with big dreams! Nearly all of my 17 years on this wonderful planet I have had many dreams; to follow my heart no matter what, to make a difference and to gain a truly wholesome view on the world and so much more. I'm a person who has learned not to get her hopes up, but to never give up on hope, so I always try to do my best when it comes to meeting a goal, and if that goal can't be completed under my own power I simply find another way to meet it.
I've always loved the thought of going to Japan, and it's always been my intention to go there someday. There is certainly no better time than the present, so hopefully with the help of AFS, maybe, just maybe, I could spend a year in Japan studying along with kids my age! Wouldn't that just be the greatest thing ever? I've dreamed of that my whole life! If I could go to Japan, not only would I be fulfilling that dream, but I'd be a step closer to my goal of making a difference, and one day, true peace and equality among all. I won't go into my whole view on the world now and how it should be, but the gist of it is a world filled with nothing but love for all, true equality. Radical Equality.
Unfortunately for me, my own family can barely provide funding for my endeavor, and I'm in need of major assistance. I am the only child of a single mom, struggling to take care of me and our four pets, and it will soon grow to six. We both have a strong love for animals, especially my mom. She is a very strong woman, and finally deciding what her professional career should be, she graduated from college a few months ago with a bachelors degree in marketing! I'm so proud of her, and I want to do this for so many reasons, and my mom's pride in me is at the top of the list! If you support me during my trip, I promise that I will continue to make this world a better place, for truly if there are people in this world that can believe in me by just reading these small excerpts from my life, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind I could gain the courage to take charge and make a positive difference on this wonderful planet!
